The Director, Global Quality will lead the corporate quality function through the development and implementation of a global quality roadmap working globally across all Tennant sites, functions, and suppliers to understand the root cause, impact, and countermeasures/resolutions for identified quality issues. In addition to supporting the proactive strategic quality goals of the global enterprise; this role will be instrumental in developing, implementing, sustaining, and improving the Quality Management System (QMS). In this role you will also be responsible for capturing, reviewing, and communicating proactive global quality metrics including but not limited to short-term quality (STQ), warranty, and other metrics related to manufacturing, design, field, and supplier quality performance. You will manage one direct report and indirectly manage global on-site quality teams and other global functions both involved and affected by the quality of Tennant products and services.   • Create and implement a global quality roadmap that includes best practices, strategy, policies, processes, and procedures that will drive and improve enterprise performance in the areas of design, manufacturing, supply, and field quality
  • Engage and collaborate with all global Tennant plants, distribution centers, and other locations to align quality objectives with the business plan, operations objectives, and the global QMS.
  • Directly lead the Global Supplier Quality team with a focus on supplier audit/ assessment, supplier quality performance management, supplier corrective action, and supplier development
  • Indirectly lead the strategic direction for field quality, design quality, and approximately 10 onsite quality leaders across the globe through continuous improvement, influence, and collaboration.
  • Lead the global effort for achieving and maintaining International Organization of Standardization (ISO) certifications including the Quality Management System oversite and documentation, global internal auditor training and certification, global internal audit schedule and results, external auditor firm selection, external audit schedule, and the resolution of any internal or external audit finding (major, minor or observations)
  • Capture and monitor key performance metrics and scorecards that measure quality performance for the enterprise
  • Create, develop, and lead an Enterprise Quality Council including quality oversite and related initiatives, metrics, and actions to improve the customer experience, both internal and external including field campaigns and recalls
  • Collaborate with global business units in the analysis of customer quality data including but not limited to short-term quality (STQ) and warranty to determine trends and set strategies, structure, and processes to drive improvements in manufacturing and distribution quality.
  • Work with new product development / R&D teams to understand the quality attributes, quality risks, and lessons learned from existing products (ex. production performance, quality issues, and customer complaints) are integrated into the design and manufacturing process. Utilize common process validation tools including APQP, PFMEA, DFM, DFA, and PPAP
  • Assure compliance of Tennant Company manufacturing /distribution/supply chain to all applicable laws, regulations, and standards

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in quality assurance, engineering, or related fields
  • Minimum 10 years of work-related experience in operations/manufacturing quality, supplier quality, and/or quality management systems
  • Minimum 5 years of experience managing and developing a team
  • Continuous improvement/Lean Manufacturing experience preferred
  • Six Sigma certification and experience desirable
  • APQP experience preferred
  • Project/program management experience preferred
  • MS Office, SAP, or related ERP experience
  • Knowledge and exposure to operations management/business systems
  • Results-oriented with a strong focus on quality/performance systems
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate and influence other functional areas globally including finance, legal, R&D, sales & service, supply chain, and operations
  • Knowledge and experience with global cultures and business practices
