Position Details

Status: On-going part-time, non-exempt

Hours: 10-20 hours per week based on business need, mostly evening hours as required. Preferred hours are Monday-Thursday late afternoon through early evening with flexibility if chosen candidate can only work evenings.

Salary: Starts at $16.00 - $18.00 per hour (depending upon qualifications)

Location: Parks and Recreation Department office and off-site for programs and leagues as required.

Reporting Relationship: Reports to Recreation Supervisor - Athletics. This position may take work direction from other Recreation Supervisors. In addition, this position will provide work direction to part-time seasonal staff, including umpires and officials.

Recreation Division

The Recreation Services Division has the responsibility for managing all recreation facilities and providing a variety of affordable recreation programs and services for all age groups and people of all abilities. The staff in this division are responsible for the management of facilities such as the Art Center, Senior Center and the Outdoor Center, as well as all other City park buildings and recreation facilities such as ball fields, outdoor ice rinks, sledding hill, amphitheatre and facilities on school property that are operated in partnership with the School District such as Round Lake Baseball field, Oak Point Pool, tennis courts at CMS and various school gymnasiums.

Position Responsibilities

The Recreation Lead-Athletics provides assistance to the Recreation Supervisor - Athletics with the operations of Adult Athletics and other programs and events as assigned. The primary position responsibilities and areas of impact are:

  • Assist Recreation Supervisor - Athletics with the supervision and scheduling of officials, umpires, scorekeepers and open gym supervisors. Communicate with staff in a timely manner to ensure effectiveness of athletic programs and resolve escalated issues promptly.
  • Supports Recreation Supervisor - Athletics with communications to team managers and league participants, including registration, league scheduling, management of standings and use of athletic facilities.
  • Assist and support the implementation of administrative processes, policies, and procedures to ensure high quality programs, facilities and services.
  • Conduct on-site visits at various athletic facilities; parks and gymnasiums to evaluate leagues, umpires and officials as needed.

While these areas are the primary focus of the position, we believe strongly in teamwork and employees will be called upon to perform a variety of duties as a part of their role with the City.

Position Requirements

Education: High School Diploma or General Education Degree and three (3) years of study in a post-secondary curriculum. Course work in athletics, parks and recreation or related field is preferred; CPR and First Aid certification preferred.

Work Experience: Minimum of two years experience in athletics, including scheduling and the ability to officiate various sports is preferred. Experience with developing, planning, and evaluating sports programs. Strong communication, technology, and customer service skills. Strong problem solving abilities and techniques.

Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook). Experience with various software applications; registration, facility and league scheduling. Knowledge of RecTrac recreation software is preferred
