As a Product Management Leader, you will be leading the effort in shaping Emerson’s Reliability Solutions portfolio to drive growth in terms of market share and revenue. You will be proactive in leading the product management team, with business insights and have proven people management skills. You will manage ambiguity effectively, motivate and build a passionate team that drives for results.

In this role, you will define, execute, and deliver a product roadmap that adds great value to our customers. You will participate in developing the strategy and vision for the team, and you will develop and maintain product roadmaps and features based on team strategy and vision. This role is inherently cross-functional -- you will work closely with engineering, operations, finance and executive teams to bring an industrial product to the market and develop and grow a new business opportunity for Emerson. A successful candidate will be highly analytical, able to work effectively in a dynamic environment, and adept at synthesizing a variety of technologies and capabilities into high quality products and applications that customers love.

You are expected to know the reliability landscape. You should be familiar with Emerson offering versus that of competitors, identify complementing solutions, alliances and partners to drive business growth. You will be working with technology, product management, sales and other relevant organizations across the globe.

A successful candidate is expected to be a thought leader who can develop and articulate a clear vision and forward direction to gain market share and profitability.

Core Responsibilities

Manage the team of Product Managers who manage Machinery Health Management and Field Device Health Management Product lines

Understand the market segment, white spaces, sales channel, customer spend and potential growth areas.

Work with direct reports in defining strategic direction and roadmap of products

Define competitive positioning and Emerson product differentiation.

Identify complementing solutions, alliances and partners to drive business growth

Analyze and understand the current and historical product performance to define forward direction

Work with MARCOM team in defining product positioning, success stories, quantified business results (QBR) and campaigns.

Define any new possible business models that can drive growth

Understand SAAS, PAAS and remote monitoring needs of our customers. Have expert knowledge on competitor offerings in these areas. Propose the right strategies for the product lines responsible.

Understand what our competitive advantages are. Make them known to technology organization and management alike. Drive to make these attributes obvious in our product portfolio. Then finally ensure that these are communicated clearly to prospects.

Track user feedback and prioritize for implementation.

Understand the balance of new to the world functionality versus sustaining improvements.

Deliver proposed licensing strategies and results to executive management.

Ensure we have the right candidates representing Emerson at the industrial standards committees that are essential to market leadership.

Collaboration with Technology:

Provide marketing leadership (i.e. guidance, direction, and oversight) to ensure that the market requirements are understood and addressed by the technology organization during the product development process.

Define market requirements based on customer functional, usability and robustness requirements, ensuring product requirements reflect the broader need of our primary markets. Ensure these requirements are understood by the technology organization such that they are met in the design and development of the product.

Work together with the NPD group on the gate review process to ensure the proper approval steps are in place.

Define minimum viable product and scope projects that have a good balance between customer needs and time to market.

Participate in regular meetings with technology to review project progress and take relevant actions on project scope / communication to market as necessary to meet customer commitments.

Work with Technology to file relevant IP that are important to protect our innovation and leadership in the market.

Involve in usability / HCD (Human Centered Design) studies and recruit relevant users (internal / external) to support the studies.

Drive progress on development by:

Work with sales, product managers and customers to identify needs.

Align with Management on business case and sales channel

Ensure direction statements are created and aligned with technology in scoping the product releases.

Conduct portfolio management and define the right product roadmap that will deliver optimum business growth and gain in market share.

Drive 4 Ps of marketing for software interfaces – Product, Price, Positioning and Placement.

RTQ (Request to Quote)

Ensure timely communication to sales enablement and sales channels to deliver an early adoption of the new products under development

Manage RTQ for current and future products to be released

Provide recommendations on the licensing and pricing strategy.


Work with the MARCOM to ensure the products are promoted to drive sales revenue.

oTypical activities include

- Develop Product Data Sheets, Brochures, Videos, Press Releases, email campaigns, Whitepapers, sales FAQ etc.

- Ensure product presentations are available on sales portal

- Co-develop advertising if applicable

Deliver WebEx sessions to ensure sales are trained. Work with the Sales Enablement team to coordinate this training.

Participate in sales training events to interface to sales when requested by the sales enablement team.

Ensure that we are covered in standards development and that none of the emerging standards prevent or prohibit participation. Work with other PMs, Industry team, customer feedback and Sales team on this.

Address technical questions from sales and customers that others are unable to be answered by the sales enablement team.

Organizational Readiness

Work with operations to ensure on time product delivery.

Work with cross departments to ensure organizational readiness to support the new products.

Work with sales, sales enablement and finance teams in defining ROI as part of the NPD process.

Work with Sales Enablement to train sales team

Drive product Betas where required and recruit customers who can be part of the beta process.

Measure of Success

Effective people management of direct reports

Individual contribution beyond managing the product management team

Successful release of products

Growth enablement via roadmap planning

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS: Candidates are expected to have a strategic mindset, drive vision and purpose and be interpersonal savvy

Bachelor’s Degree in Computer science, Electrical, Electronics, Mechanical, Chemical Engineering or equivalent

MBA Preferred

10 years + experience in process industry

5+ years of experience in product marketing

Familiarity to Reliability discipline

Experience in managing a product management team

Experience in marketing campaign experience

Effective time management skills and the ability to multitask

Professional and proactive work ethic

Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills

Experience with digital marketing forms such as social media

Experience with Product Development Process, having participated in multiple cycles of product development

Additional Information

10-25% Travel

Position will be based in Eden Prairie, Minnesota
