Job Description Job Description Senior Attorney | Nonprofit Organizations Minneapolis Direct Counsel is seeking a Senior Attorney to join the Nonprofit Organizations practice of a highly respected, full-service law firm in its Minneapolis office. This role is well-suited for an attorney with 5 years of experience advising nonprofit and tax-exempt organizations, or for a senior attorney with a strong interest in nonprofit work and relevant tax, corporate, or political law experience. The Role The successful candidate will take on a senior-level role advising nonprofit organizations on the complex tax, corporate, and charitable trust issues unique to tax-exempt entities. The practice serves a broad range of nonprofit clients and offers the opportunity to manage matters independently while collaborating with colleagues across offices nationwide. Key Responsibilities Advise nonprofit and tax-exempt organizations on tax, governance, and charitable trust matters Counsel clients on federal and state tax-exemption issues, compliance, and operational matters Serve as a primary relationship attorney for nonprofit clients in Minnesota Collaborate with attorneys across employment, corporate, real estate, intellectual property, and litigation practices Contribute to a team-oriented practice that values collaboration and shared expertise Qualifications 5 years of legal experience in private practice or a comparable setting Experience advising nonprofit or tax-exempt organizations on tax and corporate matters is strongly preferred Attorneys with experience or interest in political law, corporate or partnership tax, employee benefits, trusts and estates , or related areas are encouraged to apply Excellent written and oral communication skills Strong attention to detail and solid academic credentials Attorneys with or without an active book of business are welcome Practice Overview The firm maintains a long-standing and nationally respected nonprofit practice , representing private foundations, community foundations, healthcare systems, cultural and arts organizations, educational institutions, religious organizations, trade associations, and other nonprofit entities. The role offers meaningful responsibility in Minnesota while also providing opportunities to work with colleagues and clients across the country. Compensation & Benefits Anticipated salary range: $265,000 – $450,000, depending on experience and location Compensation may vary based on skills, training, experience, and other job-related factors Comprehensive benefits package including productivity and discretionary bonuses, health and disability insurance, and a 401(k) plan Work Environment The firm fosters a collaborative and flexible work culture.
