We are looking for a Principal Software Engineer to evaluate and implement emerging technologies that optimize or automate systems and automation is delivering business value, including, but not limited to, IDE-Plugins, Software Composition Analysis (SCA), Static Application Security Testing (SAST), and Interactive Application Security Testing (IAST), and proactively investigate emerging opportunities and technologies

Primary Responsibilities:


  • Implement automated solutions into all CI/CD development pipelines for application security technologies

  • Integrate tools with internal tools for reporting, automation, and administration

  • Educate engineering teams on the use and configuration of these tools, and on the onboarding processes for each

  • Support the products we own that report on adoption rates and aggregated scan result

  • Ensure high level internal customer engagement, solicitation of feedback, transparency & openness and support.

  • Drive increased productivity through automation in the security technologies that support our engineering community

  • Demonstrate a strong sense of urgency and holistic view; balancing both breadth and depth of knowledge and continuous improvement in the organization

  • Build relationships and collaborate with senior technology leaders and Optum product owners & delivery managers, seeking their feedback, improving the application security technologies that integrates well into their established tools, workflows, and practices

  • Assist security colleagues in evaluating the business and security risk of software security vulnerabilities. Suggest practical, effective, and scalable mitigation strategies for shortand long-term situations

    Required Qualifications:

    • Undergraduate degree in applicable area of expertise or equivalent experience

    • 7+ years of experience working in a software development environment

    • Professional experiences in both corporate and consulting environments combined with a balance of skills in cybersecurity, IT, management, and business acumen

    • Experience building scalable systems/applications from conception through successful delivery to our customers

    • Demonstrated experience with one or more of: Java (Spring), C#, Python, Javascript (Angular JS), Golang

    • Demonstrated experience building and consuming REST APIs

    • Familiar with Agile methodologies, including Scrum or Kanban

    • Familiar with CI/CD tools, including Jenkins, GitLab, and Azure DevOps
      Preferred Qualifications:

      • MBA or advanced degree

      • 5+ years of experience managing or supervising a large team of developers

      • Software Engineering work experience in Healthcare industry

      • Self-starter with a high degree of self-management and commitment to delivery timelines

      • Proven interpersonal, communication and presentation skills

      • Ability to clearly explain technical concepts and analysis implications to a wide audience

      • Ability to work effectively in a high demand, fast-paced and evolving environment

        Colorado, Connecticut or Nevada Residents Only: The salary range for Colorado residents is $113,500 to $218,100. The salary range for Connecticut / Nevada residents is $113,500 to $218,100.
