The Director will report to the Senior Vice President leading one of the pillars within the national Clinical Performance team (CP). The role will be responsible for:


  • Support the strategic vision of achieving the quadruple aim
  • Management, administration and execution of multiple projects and workstreams involving Finance, Strategy and Investments
  • Manage daily operations of multiple levels of staff
  • Accountable for financial (budgets and actuals) and non-financial results (clinical metrics, staffing models, etc.)
  • Setting performance success criteria to support investment decisions, including critical cross-pillar and cross-market initiatives
  • Developing executive-level relationships and co-developing the long-term strategy and roadmaps for alignment on investments in clinical programs that drive value
  • Managing cross-pillar financial discipline and accountability around critical decisions and execution


    Primary Responsibilities:


    • Provides guidance and expertise to internal and external partners to ensure programs and strategies are implemented and maintained effectively
    • Review consolidated operational performance reports in order to determine overall effectiveness, make necessary changes, and identify opportunities for new programs or program consolidation or expansion
    • Partner with relevant internal and/or external stakeholders to develop and/or review potential operational strategies, programs, and plans (e.g., affordability initiatives; quality programs; projected resource needs)
    • A key measure of success for this role will be value delivered to the regions or Care Delivery Organizations (CDOs) through clinical programs while ensuring overall return on investment during a period of rapid growth and innovation.
    • Effective facilitation and communication with market and CP leadership is imperative
    • Provides leadership to and is accountable for the performance and results of diverse or broad investment portfolio, such as the Innovation Fund, through multiple layers of management. Impact of work is most often at the market or regional level
    • Lead in the financial management of capital and operating expenses, estimate synergies and benefits, as well as develop the metrics, benchmarks and analytics to guide the appropriate investment decisions.
    • Understands and incorporates industry specific metrics into reports to highlight relevant trends and support fact-based business decisions
    • Build and inspire a high-performing team to partner with clinical experts on execution and escalation of issues and opportunities
    • Analyze possible mergers and acquisitions. Works with senior leadership on all phases of the pre-merger process, including consulting opportunities

      Required Qualifications:


      • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
      • 10+ years of experience within finance, including finance leadership
      • 5+ years of experience leading and mentoring teams
      • Experience with program development and execution, investments, M&A and/or value creation
      • Solid understanding of managed care, quality improvement, patient and provider experience
      • Willingness to travel up to 25%

        • Proven ability to work with people at multiple levels of the organization, multiple functions of an organization, and multiple locations

          Colorado, Connecticut or Nevada Residents Only: The salary range for Colorado residents is $134,200 to $257,700. The salary range for Connecticut / Nevada residents is $134,200 to $257,700. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
