    The Assoc CMO OptumRx will collaborate with business leaders across the OptumRx PBM, including the Account Management, Operations, Product Management, Clinical Services, Analytics & Reporting, Pharmacy Networks and Pharmaceutical Industry Relations, to communicate the clinical value proposition to PBM clients/prospects and improve the clinical quality of the PBM services we provide. This individual will work across Optum, to help provide input into product development that PBM clients expect. Also, this individual will become a member of OptumRx's independent Pharmacy & Therapeutics committee. The CMO, PBM reports to the Chief Medical Officer of OptumRx.

    The Chief Medical Officer, PBM has accountability clinical market strategies, improving clinical and cost outcomes, monitoring clinical outcomes and operational performance, driving drug affordability and performance, overseeing development and implementation of initiatives to meet quality standards, and ensuring compliance with applicable Federal, State and local laws.

    Primary Responsibilities:

    • Develop and implement clinical pharmacy policy in collaboration with other members of clinical leadership team in accordance Pharmacy & Therapeutic (P&T) guidelines
    • Work with regional leaders to adapt the clinical strategy for different client circumstances
    • Pharmacy & Therapeutics committee membership
    • Support Superior Clinical Product Design
    • Ensure services are delivered to members at the highest quality standards, that initiatives meet or exceed HEDIS and accreditation standards such as NCQA
    • Drive change and innovation and create a culture that thrives on continuous change
    • Own Market Strategies to meet the Needs of and deliver value to PBM Customers
    • Work across PBM book of business to identify clinical opportunities among membership and improve clinical outcomes, consistent with the UHG mission

      Demonstrated Skills and Experience:

      • Understanding of FDA drug approval process and ability to evaluate scientific literature in support of drug efficacy and drug value
      • Experience as a member of or the oversight over a Pharmacy & Therapeutics Committee
      • Clinical policy development experience
      • Proven record of executive clinical leadership in a pharmacy benefit manager, managed care organization or hospital system
      • Ability to lead, build and inspire a team to maximal performance
      • Capable of executing with discipline and urgency to drive improvements against stated goals
      • Ability to develop relationships with network both inside and external to United Health Group
      • Ability to successfully function in a matrix organization

        Required Qualifications:

        • Medical Doctor
        • Current, unrestricted licensed Physician
        • Board Certification (Does not have to be active)
        • 5+ years hands-on business and clinical management responsibilities within a clinical leadership role for a managed care organization, pharmacy benefits manager and/or hospital system
        • Experience in clinical policy for case management and disease management
        • Direct clinical practice experience post-residency
        • Familiarity with current medical issues and practices
        • Ability to navigate ambiguity, develop networks and manage in a matrix
        • Strategic ability to align clinical strategies with business objectives
        • Ability to travel up to 50% nationally (leadership/product team meetings, client meetings, conferences)

              Colorado, Connecticut or Nevada Residents Only: The salary range for Colorado/Connecticut/Nevada residents is $275,000-$350,000 The role is also eligible to participate in UHG's annual bonus and long term incentive plans.
