Join us and start doing your life's best work.(sm) The role of Chief Executive Officer, OptumRx Specialty Pharmacy is an executive leadership role responsible for leading a complex growth business in one of the fastest growing segments of Optum. This executive will set the strategy to accelerate the growth of the OptumRx Specialty Pharmacy, design the consumer and provider offerings, cultivate strategic relationships with pharma, and pioneer new innovation in products and services in this growth sector. As a senior leader of the organization, the CEO must leverage a deep understanding of the health landscape, understanding the needs of all our constituents (payers, providers, employers, government, pharma, and consumers), and partnering successfully throughout UHG (Optum and UHC) to drive growth across a portfolio of products and services. This executive will be expected to promote Our United Culture and build the workforce of clinicians and operators to deliver affordable, coordinated, value-based care. Primary Responsibilities:

  • Create strategy and vision for the Specialty Pharmacy with full P&L accountability to drive rapid and sustained profitable growth and ensure execution of strategies
  • Innovate, adapt, and drive emerging business models, products, and services in the dynamic healthcare market and ecosystem
  • Maintain an astute outside-in perspective with deep knowledge of the specialty pharmacy market and landscape, monitoring emerging trends and capabilities
  • Set financial, performance, and growth goals and work with leaders and partner teams to measure and manage progress
  • Work externally and across the enterprise to cultivate relationships and identify new business opportunities
  • Provide leadership and partner closely with matrixed partners, shared services, and sales teams to ensure close partnerships and end-to-end success

    • BA or equivalent degree, advanced degree highly desirable
    • 15+ years of experience as an experienced, senior leader with demonstrated success working in large, complex, highly matrixed organizations
    • Pharmacy background, preferably with Specialty
    • Experienced in setting vision and delivering on a consumer-oriented strategy
    • Solid collaborator that can effectively work cross functionally
    • Solid influence skills to be leveraged both internally and externally with industry players
    • Solid executive presence and EQ
    • Solid financial acumen
    • Ability to drive results amidst significant transformation
    • Systems thinker demonstrating curiosity and mindset for innovation
    • Experienced and successful change leader, leading through wide-scale transformation and change
    • Comfortable in ambiguity and can clearly communicate across all levels of the organization

Colorado, Connecticut or Nevada Residents Only:The salary range for Colorado / Connecticut / Nevada residents is $325,000 to $425,000.The role is also eligible to participate in UHG's annual bonus and long term incentive plans.
