We are seeking applicants for our Director- Privacy/IP role who have a desire to join our growing Legal team. Reporting to the company's Deputy General Counsel, you will advise and partner with our commercial Legal team members, engineering, IT, product, compliance and security, sales, marketing, HR, and other teams throughout the organization to manage legal risk and compliance with global privacy laws and regulations and protect and grow our IP portfolio. On the privacy side, you will partner with our security and compliance and commercial legal teams to develop and effectuate strategies and initiatives that focus on maturing and enhancing the company's existing privacy programs. On the IP side, you'll have a broad range of responsibilities including managing and expanding our IP portfolio, providing IP guidance on various product and R&D initiatives (including open source issues), as well as IP diligence involvement in M&A matters.

What to expect?
--- You'll work with the commercial legal team to support and facilitate negotiation of data protection contracts, data protection or IP related clauses, and the Company's Global Data Protection Agreement updates. This work is ongoing as we continue to expand internationally.
--- You'll work with the commercial legal team in providing foundational privacy knowledge and acting as a resource and point of escalation where privacy or IP matters are the focus of a given commercial negotiation.
--- From time to time, you will be asked to conduct due diligence on existing or new vendors (through review of privacy-related terms and conditions) and partner with our compliance team to address concerns or gaps.
--- Related to the above, you'll partner with the sourcing and security and compliance teams to develop and incorporate privacy controls, including due diligence assessments.
--- From time to time you will be the point person who responds to customer and employee questions about their individual data rights and Arctic Wolf's processing activities.
--- On an ongoing basis, you will draft and/or regularly update existing and new Arctic Wolf privacy policies, such as customer and employee-facing privacy notices, HR privacy notice, IT Monitoring Notice, and other internal group policies.
--- Support the Data team with the review and implementation of the Contentful Record Retention policy.
--- You'll be asked to provide advice and guidance on tactical and strategic data privacy matters to various business stakeholders including sales, marketing, HR and members of the commercial legal team.
--- Provide data protection training to the business across all business locations.
--- You will need to actively monitor and distill new data laws and regulations and their impact from both a commercial and corporate perspective, including risks and opportunities for the business from such new laws and regulations.
--- You'll be required to provide timely and pragmatic legal advice to internal stakeholders, including proactively identifying recurring issues and developing recommendations pertaining to use of cookies and tracking technologies, compliance with marketing-related regulations, and performing research and providing concise guidance on privacy matters as we expand into new regions, specifically as it relates to customer and employee privacy and cross-border data transfers.
--- You'll participate in the protection and defense strategy of Arctic Wolf's intangible assets (domain names, trademarks, copyright) and partner with respective teams.
--- Manage and enhance the Company's Patent Program, working closely with R&D and Product teams.
--- Work with in-house and external M&A counsel on review of IP as part of the diligence process. You will work with the same teams plus the company's Integration team and commercial legal team on integrating and productizing newly acquired IP.
--- Work with R&D and Product teams on review and assessment of newly proposed features, software, use of open source software, as well as proposed technology integrations. You will continue to work with the same in auditing existing software.
--- You will work with the company's Alliances and Sourcing teams regarding technological partnerships with various third parties, assessing impact on the existing code base and more.

What you need to be successful?
--- 5+ years relevant experience advising a multinational SaaS company on data privacy and IP regulation and laws.
--- JD from a reputable ABA law school; member of at least one state bar in good standing.
--- Experience working with cross-functional teams, preferably in a tech or startup environment. Law firm applicants acceptable so long as there is a proven record working with a technology or startup client base.
--- Deep experience with global privacy regulations, which include GDPR, the ePrivacy Directive, CAN-SPAM, COPPA, and CCPA/CPRA and desire to learn upcoming regulations
--- Foundational knowledge of key security programs such as ISO and SOC2
--- CIPP certification appreciated; if not certified, then willing to become certified within the first 6 months of hire.
--- Experience in trademark registration process and management highly appreciated.
--- Experience in advising on open-source software.
--- Experience working independently, quickly and accurately to assess legal, practical, and business risks, and provide clear guidance
--- Business judgment and practical client counseling experience, particularly with launching new privacy initiatives or as it relates to protecting IP .
--- A level of comfort in delivering and implementing new privacy initiatives cross-functionally.
--- Experience advising clients on risk mitigation
--- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work cohesively in a collaborative and distributed environment.
--- Excellent judgment, analytical rigor, clear communication, and business pragmatism.
--- Solution-oriented approach in working with the business.
--- An ability to multitask, which includes handling a variety of legal issues simultaneously
