Director of Procurement position is responsible for optimizing
SunOpta's strategic and operational procurement for packaging
material across the network as well as supporting and leading
network wide operational and strategic initiatives. He/she will be
an integral part of the SunOpta procurement leadership team and
work closely with this team to define overall procurement
strategies and activities for people, process, and
technologies.Essential Functions of the Job:Leverage The Platform
and Perform Leading Edge Strategic Sourcing Develop plans and
priorities for procurement sourcing initiatives together with VP
Ops and SVP Procurement and other stakeholders. Ensure suppliers
are meeting operational and strategic procurement goals.Participate
in developing and rolling out corporate strategic and operational
initiatives including facilitating cross functional teams to pursue
supplier consolidation and cost savings.Actively participate in
procurement leadership team setting goals and objectives for the
procurement function.Work with VP Ops, Plant Managers, and
functional stakeholders to identify and implement improvement
opportunities.Develop weekly and monthly KPI dashboards for
assigned sites, spend categories and suppliers. Facilitate the
implementation of corporate contracts, collect supplier performance
feedback and lead corrective / improvement action plans.Manage &
Develop the Procurement Team Participate in hiring, coaching, and
mentoring procurement team members to grow the skills and behaviors
required for success in their roles. Provide direction and support,
addressing operational and supplier challenges in a positive and
constructive manner. Strengthen the Organization Create development
plans for buyers and senior buyers together with Sr Director of
Procurement, VP Ops and Plant Managers; (e.g., Material Managers,
Plant Procurement Teams). Identify process requirements and tools
as inputs to the creation of standardized best practices across the
organization in the area of procurement strategic and operational
execution.Take a lead role in implementing new processes and
ensuring compliance across the team.Address reasons for
non-compliance by escalating and enlisting support as
needed.Provide change management leadership to the team and for
partner functions.Identify risks and assist in the development and
implementation of solutions in the areas of people, process, and
technology as the organization continues to evolve and
grow.Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervisory Responsibilities may
include (Dotted-Line Reporting): Plant BuyersSenior
BuyersManagersAnalystsMinimum Qualifications:Bachelor's Degree in
Business, Procurement, Supply Chain or Related Field. Minimum of 10
years' experience in procurement with increasing responsibilities.
Strong background in packaging material sourcing in a CPG
environment including, but not limited to: corrugated material,
flexible packaging, folding cartons, etc. Candidate must have
strong experience working in a multi-plant environment and
interaction with multiple stakeholders from various levels /
functions.Candidate needs an expertise around packaging and
contract manufacturing development.Preferred Qualifications: MBA.
Food or beverage experience or experience in a regulated
environment. Ingredients and packaging material sourcing in a CPG
environment.Experience across a wide variety of (technical)
ingredients, materials, flavors, and commodities.International
procurement experience.Experience leading change initiatives and
address resistance and concerns of impacted functions.Knowledge and
Skills:Functional and technical knowledge of strategic and
operational procurement.Strong negotiating skills.Experience in
spend/cost analysis, supplier analysis, process analysis and
opportunity identification.Strong communication and collaboration
skills.Additional Considerations:Travel Expectations: Up to
25%.Location: This position will be based out of our Corporate
Office in Eden Prairie, MN. Work Environment: Approximately 90% of
this work is performed in an office environment; 10% off-site
including plants, meetings, and training. Relocation or
international remote working arrangements (outside of the US) will
