Job Description:

This position will report to the Chief Medical Officer of UnitedHealthcare and will be responsible for leading Health Care Value through Accountable Care Organizations and organized systems of care across all Lines of Business in UnitedHealthcare. The CMO of Population Health will collaborate with UnitedHealthcare Network on design and implementation of innovative, value-based contracts and evolving reimbursement models and work with leaders across the enterprise in support of Health Care Value initiatives.
The SVP/CMO of Health Care Value will be a critical part of the UCS leadership team and will hold delegate decision making authority on behalf of the Chief Medical Officer of UnitedHealthcare. This role will require a strategic and critical thinking mindset with the ability to handle multiple priorities as well as the ability to articulate and represent both UHC and Optum's strategy to executive leaders across the enterprise and external stakeholders.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with UHN on design and implementation of innovative, value-based contracts and evolving reimbursement models: pay-for-performance, shared-savings, limited capitation and full risk
• Direct and oversee development of analytics, actionable information, tools and programs needed for network providers to optimize performance in value-based contracts - achieving shared goals of quality, safety affordability and improved member and provider experience
• Lead the Health care value team in engaging providers and driving uptake of programs and tools that support practice transformation and a path to risk for physician-led and health system- supported ACO's
• Develop partnerships with ACO leaders and network providers to support care process redesign, clinical performance improvement and a better experience for members and providers
• Collaborate with UCS clinical leaders to stratify the population, develop and implement programs that successfully achieve measurable improvement in quality, safety, service and financial outcomes
• Educate and update providers on new UHC programs, tools and benefits and actively listen to their feedback
• Actively participate in the design and implementation of provider tools with the goals of integrating member-centric programs into the provider workflow

  • Active, unrestricted Medical license with 10+ years clinical practice and 8+ years in a leadership in physician practice or payer overseeing risk contracts
  • Board Certification in and ABMS clinical specialty
  • Strong strategic, analytic and critical thinking skills with proven ability to use clinical, administrative and claims data to identify opportunities, inform program design and measure process, clinical and financial outcomes.
  • Demonstrated ability to inform design, build and implementation of IT systems to support innovative clinical program - including workflow, data use and reporting requirements.
  • Experience in overseeing the execution and metric-driven performance evaluation of vendors, operations teams and financial return on investment.
  • Demonstrated ability to transform care models, engage members and providers and succeed in risk-based and alternative payment models
  • Effective strategic and critical thinking skills needed to focus on actionable information and drive results.
  • Proven ability to drive, lead and communicate change effectively in a fast-paced environment and be adaptable within the changing environment
  • Ability to manage programs and projects in a strategic and professional manner
  • Ability to manage and support organizational change and help assist individuals through the transition
  • Strong ability to communicate effectively and efficiently (both verbal and written) at multiple levels of large, complex organizations.
