Job Description:
The Leonardo DRS Naval Electronics business provides leading
naval computing infrastructure, network and data distribution and
middleware enterprise services, as well as world-class
manufacturing and support capabilities. Job Summary As the Vice
President of Engineering for our Naval Electronics Business Unit,
you will be a key member of our Naval Electronics leadership team.
The successful candidate will participate in strategic planning,
propose and align product roadmaps, as well as build, manage, and
scale high-performing engineering teams that transform our product
roadmaps across multiple sites. This leader will also be tasked
with assessing the current engineering landscape, best practices,
and processes and ways of working, developing a long-term vision
and plans to execute on that vision. This includes, continuing to
build a sustainable blueprint for technology and focusing on
operational excellence, innovation, process improvement in
electronics hardware and software. Job Responsibilities Provide
strategic direction and assure achievement of accountabilities for
all engineering disciplines across multiple sites and lines of
business. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and
implement long-term strategies Drive innovation, research, and
development efforts to stay ahead of industry trends Accountable
for decisions which have a direct affect on the Company’s short-
and long-range financial performance Drive technical innovation by
bringing new technology into the Company directly or hiring the
appropriate technology competencies Select, train, mentor and
motivate the technical engineering staff required to secure new
business opportunities, develop IR&D projects, and drive
technical advancements that will meet customer requirements and
business objectives Provide overall direction to the Company’s
Engineering department, ensuring that the highest level of service
is maintained for both internal and external customers Provide
technical oversight and guidance for engineering programs and
projects Provide direction and motivation to Engineering staff to
assure successful execution of the engineering responsibilities on
all programs Deliver products and services that meet cost, quality,
and time expectations by working collaboratively with Program
Management and customers Assess / manage employee capabilities and
determine staffing needs to meet current and future business needs
Provide performance management and developmental opportunities to
existing staff as well as recruit new talent in order to meet
technical gaps Foster a culture of continuous improvement and
technical excellence Secondary Accountabilities Develop strategic
partnerships with colleges, universities, and research institutes
Develop and implement improved procedures and standards for the
department, to ensure that output is high quality, accurate, on
time, and within budget, including establishing metrics (key
performance indicators) for Engineering and accountabilities for
achieving results Responsible for development, planning,
implementation, and meeting key performance objectives of all
engineering projects including the development of technical
proposals, budgets, and design approaches in support of new
business quoting activities, sales force, customer visits, product
presentations, representative training, and developing winning
strategies Qualifications Bachelor’s, or Master’s (preferred)
degree (or higher) in engineering or related engineering discipline
and at least 15 years of directly applicable experience in
engineering design and development Experience in requirements
management and documentation, risk management project planning and
technical project management is essential Experience with
electronics, compute hardware, application software, rf equipment,
power supplies, communications hardware and/or avionics equipment
Thorough understanding of government procurement procedures and an
in-depth knowledge of military contracts Strong leadership and
project management skills Strong business acumen that demonstrates
an understanding of business issues and linking solutions to the
business strategy and outcomes Hands-on problem solving and
superior oral and written communication skills required. Experience
directly supporting DOD programs highly desired Experience working
in a diverse business environment of interchangeable primes,
subcontractors, joint venture partners etc. Knowledge of export
regulations and ITAR issues U.S. Citizenship required. This
position requires an active DOD security clearance or the ability
to obtain such clearance within a reasonable time after
commencement of employment. The salary range for this position is
($215,000/year- $260,000/year). This range reflects the good faith
estimate of pay the employer is willing to offer at the time of
posting. Several factors can influence the pay scale, including but
not limited to: Federal contract labor categories and contract wage
rates, collective bargaining agreements, geographic location,
business considerations, scope, and responsibilities of the
position, local or other applicable market conditions, and internal
equity. Other factors include the candidate’s qualifications such
as prior work experience, specific skills and competencies,
education/training, and certifications. In addition to base pay,
employees may be eligible for: annual performance-based bonuses,
equity awards, and overtime pay (for non-exempt employees as
