Job Description:
Director, Finance - WoodStock Farms - Remote Partner across the
Strategic business unit (SBU) with Sales and Operations to develop
long-term strategies, make informed business decisions, and drive
financial performance. Lead FP&A for the business unit and
collaborate with Corporate, manage various aspects of business
operations. Manage a team of six professionals and report to SVP
Finance and SBU President. Job Responsibilities and
Accountabilities:
- Leadership and Management: responsible for team of 6
professionals who operate across many different aspects of finance
and business operations.
- -Focus on organization design, talent management, career
development, team planning and execution, and building a winning
and rewarding team culture -
- Business Unit Collaboration: team up with fellow business unit
leaders, managers, and supervisors throughout the organization on
commercial and operational control/improvement initiatives and
projects
- Face with Corporate Executives: represent the business unit in
monthly/quarterly/annual meetings with various executives to
include CEO, CFO, and President covering presentations,
performance, and Q&A
- Leadership Partnering: work with President and SBU Leadership
Team to develop long-term strategies
- Strategic Planning: own the SBU strategic plan development and
framework in working with other leaders on initiatives across the 6
overarching strategic pillars of leadership, delivering anchor
wins, product innovation, connected customer relationships, UNFI
optimization, and operational excellence
- Execution: support and facilitate strategy execution, status
review meetings, and performance tracking
- Financial Planning & Reporting: utilize planning and reporting
system UFIN for budgeting, forecasting, and reporting of actual
results. Partner with Financial Systems Team to ensure proper
set-up and system use -
- Corporate Deliverables: liaise with Corporate FP&A on the
budget/forecast calendar, analysis/template requirements, evolving
corporate initiatives and improvements, and monthly corporate
deliverables -
- Executive Presentation: prepare business unit presentations for
meetings with corporate senior leadership, covering strategy,
business performance, internal and external insights, commentary,
and financial guidance
- Sales Planning & Analysis: develop budgets, forecasts, and
analysis by customer/brand to include price (inflation/deflation),
volume, new business, business at risk, margin gain/loss, and
allowances
- Sales Margin: develop budgets, forecasts, and analysis by
customer to include customer mix, customer rate, customer product
mix, future commodity cost change impact, and pricing
pressures/negotiations -
- Business Decision Support: support VP Sales, Sales Team, and
Director of Procurement on various business issues to include
RFPs/bids, customer negotiations, contracts, commodity analysis,
and aging inventory
- Operations Planning & Analysis: develop budgets and analysis
for production units, production throughput, and production labor,
and production absorption rates
- Performance Management Framework: implement and track
analysis/KPIs around production shorts, production throughput,
warehouse throughput, OT levels, transportation expenses, rework,
and production planning efficiency
- Business Decision Support: support VP Operations, Director of
Quality Assurance, and Manager of Warehouse & Transportation on
various business issues to include expense control, capital
projects, operational efficiency initiatives, and manufacturing
capacity analysis
- Pricing Reviews: partner with Procurement, Sales, and IT to
project future costs for 250 commodity items and future sales
margins for 1,000 finished good items, and to effectively negotiate
price changes with customers to mitigate financial risks, optimize
revenue, and drive profitability rates
- Sales Quotes: generate new business sales quotes by building
the cost basis for each item, both bulk and manufactured items, by
assessing recipes, commodities, packaging, artwork costs, scrap,
direct labor costs, overhead costs, and transportation costs
- Product Costing: assign direct labor cost rates and overhead
cost rates for each manufactured item by allocating manufacturing
costs to all manufactured items using activity-based-costing
approach and working with operations to create customer/brand
models that account for specific film set-ups and allergen
cleanings
- Demand Planning: analyze and input future 12-month forecast for
each saleable item (approximate 1,000) into the Macola ERP system
by using Forecast Pro software trend and seasonal analysis
- Capital Projects Administration: coordinate capex forms and
documents and process for approval, create purchase requisitions in
Oracle, and receive vendor invoices in working with Oracle AP
Team
- Inventory Risk Solutions: lead the inventory analysis/reporting
and risk solutions by partnering across the business unit to devise
and execute solutions to consume or sell inventory at risk
- ERP System Operational Support: review and train users on
business processes in Macola ERP, guide and assist as needed with
system transactions, and help investigate and correct transaction
errors
- Master Data Set-Up: set up new items in the Macola ERP to
include bill-of-materials (BOM/recipes), pallet configuration codes
(GTIN), material requirements planning (MRP) parameters to include
safety stock, order minimum, order multiples, and vendor
lead-times. Enter item pricing by customer-item in Macola ERP
system
- Master Data Maintenance: maintain master data in the ERP and
MRP systems in working with Sales, Purchasing, Production,
Warehouse, Customer Service, and Quality Assurance. Following
initial set-up, data is changed for various reasons to include
price changes, recipe changes, discontinued items, and changes in
MRP parameters
- Physical Cycle Counting: manage Inventory Control Supervisor
who performs cycle counting
- System Transactions: review and process discrepancies resulting
from cycle counting and system errors
- Issue Resolution: investigate various issues to include
customer disputes, quality issues, warehouse bin locations, and
scrap factors
- Train Operations Staff: train warehouse and production
personnel on WMS scanners -
- Month-end Close: partner with corporate accounting and provide
certain journal entries, accruals, reserves, account reviews to
ensure a proper and timely period close -
- Shared Services Collaboration: partner with GL Accounting, AP,
AR, Cash Application, Fixed Assets, and Oracle Purchasing to ensure
proper accounting, accountability, and operational excellence
- Reports Daily/Weekly/Monthly: produce reports to include sales
& sales margin (a.k.a. book & ship), short ship, corporate fill
rate, manufacturing absorption, executive dashboard, top customers,
top vendors, aging inventory, demand planning scorecard,
manufacturing units produced, and open customer orders scorecard,
manufacturing units produced, and open customer orders - Job
Requirements:
- BS degree in Finance, Accounting, or equivalent.
- MBA, and/or CPA preferred.
- 10-15+ years of progressive Finance-related experience
- Wholesale distribution or retail experience preferred.
- Public accounting experience preferred.
- Wholesale or retail industry knowledge is preferred.
- Strong interpersonal skills with an ability to partner with a
multitude of key stakeholders across all functions of the
business.
- Clear and effective communicator with an ability to simplify
messaging of complex transactions and topics.
- Ability to multi-task and balance a fast-paced, evolving
business that is change-oriented and focused on growth
initiatives.

- Schedule: Full-time Compensation
- Pay Range: $131,400 - 253,600 Annually ($63.17 - 121.92
Hourly)
- Other Compensation: Bonus Eligible Compensation: UNFI
